These industrial strength pieces by Tammy Roy are created in part, or entirely of reclaimed steel and celebrate a raw, eco-inspired look. They are as tactile and beautiful as they are strong and unique, reflecting the spirit of the maker.
Tammy Roy was raised in Stratford, WI as she puts it, "population: 1523 (really). My parents were, and still are, workaholics who owned several small business including a repair shop, school bus company, gas station, car wash, and the list goes on. Needless to say, my brother and I were forced into slave labor at a very young age and worked in the family business. FYI: it is NOT fun pumping gas and checking oil in -40 degree weather, I donít care WHAT your parents have told you.
While my background is graphic design, my interest in creating things out of metal, especially reclaimed metal, stems from my momís ďhobbyĒ of rummaging through industrial dumpsters and scrapyards. I have since become completely obsessed with reuse and creating objects from discarded metal.
Iíve learned a lot from my mom, who is the ultimate dumpster diver and also a recycle-based artist. And unlike most mothers and daughters, you wonít see us in the malls, but instead pulling scraps of steel from salvage yards!"
