Bill Haskell fashions logs and wood blocks into fine, lathe-turned works of art. Since his early years, Bill has had a keen interest in creative expression. He has pursued that interest in many mediums, including silver jewelry and metal sculpture, but mainly in wood.
"Whenever possible, I like to use reclaimed urban trees that have had to be removed for one reason or another. Using those trees to create unique and beautiful pieces of art is far better than seeing the fallen tree hauled off to the dump or a wood chipper.
I prefer certain species of local urban wood to more exotic wood from foreign forests, where many are endangered. Some of the recycled urban tree species that provide wonderful wood for turning are: carob, camphor, black acacia, ash, oak, olive, bottlebrush, crepe myrtle, eucalyptus, and norfolk island pine, just to name a few."
