James "Shamus" Koch
James “Shamus” Koch is a self-defined “sculptor of found objects”. Using his innate creative vision and his well honed welding skills, Shamus turns junkyard scraps into rustic yet elegant works of art. His creations are a magical combination of organic elements and geometric patterns that will delight anyone.
Long before the concept of “green” was invented, Shamus Koch, was transforming scraps of rusted metal and discarded objects into innovative, abstract and often whimsical pieces of sculpted art, ranging from iron animals and birds to oversized feathers and metal mandalas.
It was nearly two decades ago, during a visit to the small, farming community of Newald, Wisconsin, where Shamus was born, that he found his calling as a sculptor.
There wasn’t much to do in his home town during his seasonal visits, and so began his journey to becoming the amazing artist he is today. In his words, it was “weld or wither” and the local junkyard provided the materials that inspired his designs.
